By creating an account or using Classmate ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled at (or affiliated with) a recognized post-secondary institution to use Classmate. By signing up, you confirm this is true. We reserve the right to verify eligibility and terminate accounts that do not meet these requirements.

3. User Accounts

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account.
• You may not share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others.
• You must provide accurate information when signing up.
• We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Post content that is illegal, harassing, threatening, defamatory, or discriminatory
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your academic credentials
• Spam, scrape, or automate requests to the Platform
• Upload malware or attempt to compromise the Platform's security
• Use the Platform for commercial solicitation without our written permission
• Post another person's private information without their consent
• Facilitate academic dishonesty (e.g. submitting others' work as your own)

5. User-Generated Content

You retain ownership of content you post (threads, comments, reviews, etc.). By posting content, you grant Classmate a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, and distribute that content on the Platform.

You are solely responsible for your content. We may remove content that violates these Terms without notice.

6. Tutoring and Payments

• Classmate facilitates connections between students and tutors. We are not a party to tutoring agreements.
• Payments are processed by Stripe. By making a payment, you agree to Stripe's terms.
• Tutors are independent individuals, not employees of Classmate.
• We take a platform fee from completed bookings as disclosed at checkout.

7. Housing and Marketplace Listings

Classmate is a platform for listing housing and opportunities — we do not own, verify, or guarantee any listings. Users transact at their own risk. We strongly recommend meeting in public and verifying listings before committing to any agreement.

8. AI Features

Classmate uses AI to power search, content summaries, and tutor verification. AI-generated content may contain errors and should not be relied on as professional advice. Transcript verification via AI is an assistive tool — we cannot guarantee 100% accuracy.

9. Intellectual Property

All Platform software, design, branding, and original content are the property of Classmate and protected by applicable copyright law. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the Platform without our written permission.

10. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy of content, or fitness for any particular purpose.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Classmate is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform, including loss of data, lost profits, or damages from third-party content.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these Terms. You may delete your account at any time through Settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance. We will notify registered users of material changes by email.
